Chapter Five, The Adamant Tower Summary

An unnamed flyer is trying to travel without being seen, but he has been watched. It is Baruch and he does indeed make it to Lord Asriel's fortress, but is wounded. Inside the fortress, Lord Asriel is meeting with Lord Roke, a Gallivespian. Lord Roke is the size of Lord Asriel's hand, rides a hawk, and his heels end in poisonous spurs. Lord Roke's people are spies and they are working for Asriel to find out what the Church and its various branches are up to. The Lady Salmakia is a spy and has penetrated the Society of the Work of the Holy Spirit in order to learn that the Church regards Lyra as the most important child ever. Roke uses a lodestone resonator as a communications device to get the news from his spies...
