Jenny and Trina live next door to each other, but prefer to send emails and instant message each other in the evenings. They use email and IM to gossip about the day and do homework together. Scott contacts Jenny via instant message to make sure she isn't upset that he gave the Betty Ann story to another student.

Clayton High School.

Clayton High School is in the small town of Clayton, Indiana. The school is where the main setting of the story takes place. The high school has a cafeteria which is the center of student social life.

Ask Annie is the anonymous advice column in the Clayton HS Register. Jenny is the writer of the Ask Annie column. The only people who know Jenny writes the column are Scott and Mr. Shea, the sponsor. Ask Annie answers letters from students.
