Summary
In Chapter 11, “The Mindset in the Mirror: Resistance Is Futile,” Rushkoff argues that one of the best ways to combat The Mindset is to pay attention to what the technocrats are really saying. He uses “World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab’s vision for a Great Reset” as an example (144). The Great Reset proposes that capitalism is the ultimate fix to all the social problems capitalism has created. The issue with this thinking is it doesn’t “acknowledge the human soul” (145).
Rushkoff also examines media executive and political strategist Steven Bannon’s version of The Mindset. He believes in accelerationism, which prioritizes development as humanity’s only way forward. However, accelerationism actively tries to bring on the apocalypse. Bannon is accomplishing this already via meme wars.
