Sunlight Gardens

Sunlight Gardens is the primary setting for the novel. It is the apartment building where Portico lives with his parents, Sasha and Marvin, his grandmother, Gran Gran, and their cat, A New Name Every Day. At the start of Episode 1, the narrator describes Sunlight Gardens the way that Portico sees is, as the "biggest house on the block. The biggest house in the whole wide neighborhood. Maybe even the biggest house in the whole wide city" (4). Although the graphic artist depicts Sunlight Gardens as any other towering apartment building in the unnamed city where Portico lives, to Portico, the apartment seems like a "giant castle of rectangles made from the glassiest glass and the brickiest bricks on Earth" (5).
