Chapter 6 Summary

The next day, Lord Winterseine comes by Tris's house to check on Rialla's condition. Just to be sure it is stitched up properly, Winterseine presses on the wound, eliciting a surge of rage from Tris. This is the only emotion that Rialla can ever sense from him. Tris tells Winterseine that Rialla should be able to travel in a week, and Winterseine says that he will be back in a week, and pay Tris. The week passes quickly. Tris and Rialla play many games of Steal the Dragon but she is distracted, trying to prepare herself for what lies ahead. From now on, she will not be merely pretending to be a slave. Tris tells her that her illusory tattoo is not foolproof enough, so he uses his magic to make a tattoo that even smooths the scar on her face.
