Chapters 27 - 28 Summary

Mr. McShane, the faculty representative takes Susan (Stargirl) and Leo to the oratorical contest while Susan's parents drive in their own car. In the backseat of Mr. McShane's car Susan tells Leo that Dori is mad at her for changing—-for betraying herself. Together they joke about how others will react if Stargirl wins the contest. Stargirl convinces Mr. McShane to stop along the road and she gets out of the car. She stands before an audience of cacti and practices her speech.

There are two rounds in the contest. Susan had prepared a wonderful speech entitled, "I Might Have Heard a Moa." However, in the semi-final round. the speech surprises Leo, as it is not the speech she has practiced.
