Summary

In Chapter 20, in the car, Mamush remembers Samuel telling him about his atlas. The first time Mamush saw it, he studied the “towns and roads” (156). Mamush later told Hannah about the atlas, but countered her interpretations of Samuel’s relationship with the object.

Hannah texts Mamush a picture of their son’s bedroom. He understands its significance as his room is their favorite in the apartment.

In Chapter 21, in Chicago, Mamush discovered that apartment complexes now replaced some local businesses. He texted a photo of the intersection where they once lived to Hannah, promising to call her when he reached Virginia. Hannah told Samuel Mamush was in Chicago and Samuel texted Mamush, begging him to come home.
