The red, fake Louboutin high heels represent several concepts in the novel. They primarily symbolize status for both Nisha and Sam. Nisha believes that she is entitled to hand-made, one-of-a-kind Christian Louboutin shoes for the amount of work that she did in order to secure (and keep) Carl as her husband. Once Sam dons the shoes, she believes that she is more confident and more worthy of attention, and acts in a manner that reflects this belief.
