Summary

Chapter 1 begins as Samp Kemp, a 45-year-old woman, meditates to combat anxiety. She goes to Bodyworks, a gym and spa, before work to use the pass that her 19-year-old daughter Cat gave her before it expires. Sam feels self-conscious in comparison to the other women in the gym, deeming them to be more attractive than herself.

As she prepares to enjoy the rest of her visit at Bodyworks, Sam’s co-workers arrive to pick her up for a sales meeting that her boss, Simon, rescheduled without informing her. Panicking, Sam grabs her gym bag and rushes out. As she gets dressed in the car, she discovers that she grabbed the wrong bag, which contains a Chanel jacket and red Louboutin heels. Since she is wearing flip flops, Sam has to change into the red heels for her meetings. Embarrassed by the ostentatious shoes...
