Summary

In Chapter 7, Selina and Pervus marry that May. She knows that she's now going to live the rest of her life in High Prairie as a farmer's wife, but vows that she won't ever let herself become the bedraggled housewife that Maartje is. At one point, she confides her fears to Maartje who says that she ran away before her marriage to Klaas. She says she returned before anyone knew she was gone because she realized that it's impossible to run away from life.

Pervus's house is especially ugly, even in a region where none of the houses are espcially pretty. Selina imagines herself making it pretty. Maartje lends her the traditional bridal gown. Roelf makes her a beautiful bride's chest. Selina urges him to visit often, saying she needs his friendship. They go directly to Pervus's house where Selina realizes she'll have...
