Summary

In the beginning of Part Five, Scythe Volta wrote in his gleaning journal about a morbid conversation in which Scythes Rand and Chomsky spoke about the methods they would use to glean themselves. In Chapter 37, Rowan told High Blade Xenocrates that Scythe Goddard and his allies had died in a fire. He brought Esme to Xenocrates. Xenocrates told Rowan he would call off the investigation about the scythes’ deaths. At the end of the chapter, Scythe Prometheus wrote about how the rite of passage to become scythes was intense and kept secret.
