Chapters 19-21 Summary

The next morning, Jessie wakes with a horrible headache in Chapter 19. For a second, she can't really remember where she is. She finally remembers that she is at Mr. Neely's house and he has been trying to kill her. She checks the door, and when she finds it locked, she knows she had not been dreaming. Jessie notices that her window is open and that it is her only way to escape. If she jumps, she will probably break her legs, but if she can land on the ledge and slowly climb down, she could make it. Jessie thinks of her brother Andrew as she makes her way down the side of the apartment building. She knows she can be brave just like him. Finally, when she feels she is low enough to the ground to let go, Jessie kicks off...
