The note from Adiona symbolizes the lengths to which a mother will go to save her child. Mother Adiona has been in Truth Haven so long that she has no other identity outside the cult, but she is willing to face the consequences to save her son.

Holly is the name Dee Dee uses inside the cult. The name is symbolic of the persona she assumes while she is in the cult. Dee Dee is proud and walks with a haughty posture, but Holly is subservient and bows her head. At one point, Dee Dee says that she can do whatever she wants as Dee Dee outside Truth Haven, as long as she acts like Holly when she returns.
