Summary

In Chapter 40, Benford told Gable that he had been chosen as the one responsible for getting Dominika to agree to stay with the service. Benford then poured out pictures of the Narva River Bridge on the table. The bridge connected Russia and the West. Benford said that it was planned for Dominika to be sent back to Russia across that bridge. He also said that he intended to get MARBLE back. He had proposed to the SVR that they exchange MARBLE for DIVA and they had agreed.

Back in his office, Zyuganov spoke to two thugs from the department’s group of men who were in charge of eliminating the Soviets’ enemies. After that meeting, he called for Lyudmila Tsukanova. The content of these conversations is not included in the novel.
