Oxford
Oxford is the city in England where Piglet lives with Kit. After Piglet and Kit get engaged, Kit's parents offer to help them put a down payment on a house under the condition that they choose a place close to their home in Summertown. Piglet acquiesces because to her "[a]nywhere in Oxford [is] . . . better than Derby" (35). Piglet also likes where she and Kit are living because their location lets her imagine "shopping trips with Cecelia; golf mornings for Kit and Richard; Christmases spent at the house in Summertown" (35). Oxford is therefore a wealthy area that upholds the facade behind which Piglet is living. Being in Oxford solidifies her life with Kit and separates her from her family in Derby.
