Summary

In Part 1, “98 Days,” 98 days before her wedding, Piglet stops at the Waitrose grocery store to buy groceries for tonight’s dinner party. She and her fiancé Kit just bought a house in Oxford and are having their friends Seb and Sophie, Margot and Sasha over to celebrate. While buying her ingredients, Piglet remembers the dinners her mother Linda would cook back home in Derby. Piglet dismisses the thought, feeling embarrassed at how these dinners compare to dinners with her in-laws Cecelia and Richard.

Back at home, Kit helps Piglet prepare the chicken in their yet undecorated house. Because of the heat, they cook in nothing but aprons and underwear. They sit on the tiles and sample Piglet’s dessert. Afterwards, Piglet showers and dresses, feeling “strong and beautiful in her own home” (8).
