Summary
In Part 3, Chapter 1, Piglet wakes up on Margot’s couch. She stares out the skylight, remembering the previous night. Margot encouraged her to take a long shower and gave her a set of clothes to wear. She and Margot ate some of the shepherd’s pie she had made Margot before Layla’s birth. Piglet took off the wedding dress and wrapped it up with the trash, trying “not to think of her parents” (289).
Piglet looks out the garden door and studies “the remnants of the croquembouche” (290). She feels miserable, but she reminds herself that this was her choice. She thinks about Kit, too, and wonders what he is doing. She also imagines what Cecelia and Richard might be doing now.
Piglet finally gets up when she hears Sasha in the kitchen. Margot emerges with the baby, too. Sitting at the table over toast...
