Section 3: Third Picture and Chapter 3 Summary

Third Picture, Fishing in the Delaware River, shows the river in front of the Regans' summer house with Old Man's Mountain on the opposite side. Steven warns Hollis that she will fall into the river as she leans over, using blue, green and gray colored pencils to convey the water's coloring. Steven asks if she knows how to fish, and as Hollis tries to figure out how to stay away from the water since she cannot even swim, the Old Man brings fishing rods out of the shed. The Old Man threads Hollis' rod on the bank, giving her the best lure for luck, and shows her how to cast the rod. Hollis puts her feet in the river, and as she looks at the mountain, Steven says he will show her the road going...
