Summary

In Chapter 1, Mila has the same name as her grandfather’s dog, a Bedlington terrier. She believes she has some traits in common with the dog. Mila and her father, Gil, are preparing for a trip to America to visit Gil’s oldest friend, Matthew. Matthew’s wife has called to say that Matthew has disappeared but asks Gil to come anyway. He agrees. Marieka, Mila’s mother, believes Matthew’s timing is peculiar. Even though Marieka questions if it is a good idea for Mila to go with Gil since Matthew is now missing, they decide it will be best.
