Part 2: Chapters 23-25 Summary

In chapter 23, the doctors tell Ione and Patty Jane that Thor might have recovered most of his mental faculties had he had treatment when the injury occurred, but now it is too late to do anything. Clyde asks Patty Jane what this means for them and she tells him she sees no reason for anything to change. Nora is unsure how to handle her father's return at first, so as a coping mechanism she throws herself into caring for him.

In chapter 24, Clyde throws a stag party for Reese and Harriet the night before their wedding. Clyde and Patty Jane spend the night together afterward. The wedding is beautiful. Harriet and Nora play a trumpet duet together during the ceremony, surprising everyone present. They play What a Wonderful World, and Harriet sings her favorite verse.
