Part 2: Chapters 11-13 Summary

In chapter 11, Harriet sings the song she intended for the wedding at Avel's memorial service. Not long after this, Patty Jane is shopping in the local grocery store and she finds herself staring at her husband's face on dozens of Mighty Bites cereal boxes. Patty Jane writes to Avel's sisters, hoping they will remove his face, but they refuse because sales of the cereal have doubled since they released the ones with Thor's face. Around this same time, Patty Jane comes home and finds Harriet unconscious and bleeding in the bathroom. Harriet swears it was an accident, but Patty Jane and Ione worry that she might have been thinking about suicide.

When Patty Jane finds Ione writing checks for her bills, she is ashamed. Patty Jane begins looking for a job that will support herself and her daughter, but...
