Chapters 13 through 16 Summary

In chapter thirteen, Jayden completes the paperwork for a trip to an abandoned high school. Haru is accompanying the party, ostensibly to ensure the building is sound, and Kira is to search for usable medications from the nurse's office. Officials approve the effort and the border patrol waves them through without a second glance. When they are well out of the city, Jayden marks off the route he plans to take. He discusses the fact that the JFK Airport lies in their path and that it's used mostly by dissidents, including the Voice. There are two soldiers along that Kira nicknames "Skinny" and "Scruffy." Another soldier, a big man named Gabe, is also part of the patrol. Kira thinks about Marcus and the fact that he's willing to simply wait for the human race to come to an end. She knows...
