The Mountain Lion

The mountain lion is the narrator and protagonist of the novel. He is born in a forest that is full of color and deer. He lives happily with his siblings and mother for a time, and they always leave offerings for their father, who watches them from a distance. After all his siblings go off on their own, the mountain lion remains with his mother, who always shields him from his father. However, one day, his father attacks and kills his mother, then chases him out of the forest to the highway.

The mountain lion is terrified to cross, so he lingers around the edges. At this terrible point in his life, he meets a friend—the kill sharer—who invites him to share the deer he has just killed. The mountain lion and the kill sharer bond, and they spend several days meeting back up...
