Summary

Chapters VIII – X

In Chapter VIII, Teresa met up with Niko in the present day. He expressed surprise when she said that she was not married. They discussed Petros and his poetry. Niko told Teresa the story of what happened to Petros since Teresa’s last visit. One night, a neighbor heard Sander barking and went to the garage to investigate. There they found Petros on the ground bleeding heavily from his head, barely alive. He was rushed to hospital where he required an operation. Petros insisted that the injury came about through slipping on a patch of oil. No one believed him, but in the absence of a complaint from Petros about an assault, the police did not open an investigation. Speculation existed about who could have attacked Petros and why, but no one could come up with a plausible...
