Summary

When Catherine was sick, Lucy communicated with her doctor and faithfully stayed by her side. Then one day, Lucy tried comforting Catherine by saying that her pain would soon be over. Furious at the mention of death, Catherine angrily dismissed Lucy. Lucy cried. William comforted her. He then began his mother's obituary, which Lucy admired.

At the hotel, Lucy went to William's room. She had been annoyed with him in the car and wanted to know what his problem was (146). He blamed work and Estelle. He also blamed Lucy for being "self-absorbed" and insensitive (147).
