Summary

On William’s "seventy-first birthday," he complained to Lucy about Estelle’s failure to give him a gift (49). Lucy thought he was being "such a baby" (49). Afterwards she remembered all of the nice things William had done for her.

William used his ancestry subscription to research his family. He discovered that Catherine had had a daughter with Clyde Trask. Her name was Lois Trask, and Catherine had left her when she was still a baby. She now lived in Maine. Though William did not want to believe it, Lucy knew it was true. It made sense that Catherine had "had another kid" (53).
