Summary

The humans try to compel Odder to exercise with treats, but she refuses and hardly eats. They test her, but she is fine. They worry that she might have intuited that they have decided to keep her in the aquarium permanently because of her injuries and how she never stopped feeling curious about humans once they returned her to the ocean the first time. The humans know it is her best option, but they feel as if they have failed her.

Gracie is the first otter to realize that the humans have named Odder “Jazz.” Gracie waits two days before telling Odder. Odder is not surprised. She is depressed and glad not to have to hope anymore. As the days go by, Odder starts to feel as maybe the aquarium will not be so bad. She is safe...
