Summary
At the festival, a blond-haired toddler runs up to Father Salví and calls him "papá." His mother, who had dark skin and hair, pulled him aside. Festival-goers wink and whisper, knowing that the blond haired, fair-skinned Father Salví is the child's father.
Father Dámaso gives a large mass at the festival. Though it is clear that he is unprepared, the churchgoers are reverent and believe every word he says is profound. The mass lasts an extremely, exhaustingly long time.
From the mass, all the attendees go to a ceremony to lay the first stone of Crisóstomo's new school. Elías, in disguise, is in attendance. The Governor gives Crisóstomo his explicit blessings, promising to provide any necessary support the school might need.
Suddenly, the crane holding the major stone collapses. The stone should have fallen on Crisóstomo, crushing him...
