Summary

Charlie wakes up on Saturday morning feeling terrible. He looks through his phone and sees he has no messages. He regrets what he said to Nick, but he was so freaked out by Elle and Tao breaking up, and so worried that Nick might be bored with him. Really, Charlie just wanted to test Nick to see if he wanted to break up, but the way the words came out were all wrong—and now Charlie does not know if Nick really wants to break up or not. Charlie considers texting Nick, but he is afraid of finding out what he is thinking. He remembers fighting with Nick back in sophomore year, right after getting out of the psychiatric hospital because Nick insinuated that Charlie was not trying hard enough, but that was not as bad of a fight as this one.
