Chapter 46 Summary

Lost in her thoughts of Alec, Regan misses the mile marker where she planned to turn around. Not wanting to walk the two miles back to the start or the three miles to the finish line, she flags down a volunteer and asks if there is a shortcut to the parking lot.

The volunteer points out a path through the woods and tells her it leads directly back. Regan follows his directions and stops along the way to tie her shoe. As she straightens up, she looks across a ravine and sees the killer standing on the other side, waiting for her to notice him. Regan recognizes him from the parking lot at the seminar and immediately understands why he is there now. The killer shouts something at her and she realizes he is telling her to run.
