Chapters 30-32 Summary

Deputy Bates tries to figure out what the situation is and keep things orderly as much as possible, with Lillian crying over being arrested for kidnapping, Pastor Ledbetter continuing his assault about Julia's sanity, and Brother Vern demanding justice. Little Lloyd and Hazel Marie join in the mess while Binkie tries to get to the facts. Sam arrives at about the same time, wondering what is going on.

Binkie and Sam agree that there is no kidnapping charge to worry about, as the boy is with his mother, despite Brother Vern's objections. Switching tactics, the televangelist tries to collect the reward that Julia has offered, but is told with no kidnapping there really cannot be a reward. Pastor Ledbetter uses the confusion and the obvious insanity that is going on around him to once again bring up the state of Julia's...
