Chapters 18-21 Summary

In chapter eighteen, Julia and Lillian take care of Hazel as best they can and the woman finally falls into a fitful sleep. Julia calls all the Pucketts that she can, pretending she is looking for Brother Vern to conduct a service at her church. When this fails, Julia and Lillian decide to wait for the man's church service to be broadcast that evening. If the show is live, the women will know that Brother Vern is in the area and will drive to the studio. Hazel joins them and the settle in to watch the program, which consists of preaching, singing, asking for money and a special guest. Stedman Jones, along with his wife Leesie and their sixteen children are in the studio, looking for support. As the camera pans the family, the women are startled to see Wesley Lloyd...
