Summary

Chapter Eight begins with an email response from HR, which says they will consider Maddie’s situation and firing. Her Mum asks for help in the garden. She starts to laundry and lectures Maddie about doing too much for her father, and asks why she does not have a boyfriend. Mum asks if she might be a lesbian, saying it is weird for Maddie to be 25 with no boyfriend. Mum lectures her about having children and how to find men. She says her husband should be “God-fearing” and preferably Black (58). They bicker back and forth about Maddie telling her mother enough about her love life, and about Maddie going back to Ghana.
