Section 7: Chapter 12 & 13 Summary

In Chapter 12, Dad grounds Regan and Liam for staying out so late and impounds Liam's beloved Mitsubishi Spyder convertible. Liam relinquishes the keys without a fight, obviously regretting going to the mall. By Monday, he is back to his hollow self, and Regan hopes he is over this transition phase. As Regan babysits for the Materas, she cannot stop thinking about Saturday night. Liam has not mentioned it, and Luna has resumed her safe, midnight forays in Regan's bedroom. Regan cannot forget it because she cannot bare for her brother to be viewed as a freak; no one deserves that for simply being who they are. She has always kept his secret, and she will always keep him safe. The next day in chemistry, Bruchac tells Regan that Chris dropped the class, so she convinces him to let her work alone...
