Point of View

Love, Stargirl has a first-person and limited omniscience narration from Stargirl Clement's perspective, which means that the audience is held very close to Stargirls's thoughts and emotions throughout the novel. The novel is written as a series of letters to Stargirl's ex-boyfriend, Leo. The letters function not only as a way for Stargirl to keep Leo posted on her life since she moved away from him, but also as a diary-of-sorts. As she writes to Leo - it becomes clear early on that Stargirl has no intention of actually sending the letters to Leo - she is able to work through many of her residual issues about the relationship on paper. Writing to a specific audience forces Stargirl to ask herself many tough questions, as if she is anticipating the objections Leo might have about their relationship, and to figure out the answers.
