Keep History Alive

Nazemian uses the powerful theme of 'Keep History Alive' in order to send a message to the young adult reader about how the movement felt at the time of the novel, and what the queer community still needs. This theme is Nazemian’s ask to the reader. Nazemian proves this theme most prominently through Stephen’s character - and showing what Stephen went through as documented in this novel. Next, Nazemian uses real events from ACT UP activists and recent history to prove what they did and what the LGBT community has been through. Finally, Nazemian uses Art’s character and his ask at the end to prove the future generation of the LGBT movement, and the work that still needs to be done.
