Point of View

The novel is told from the point of view of three different teenagers and friends. Each chapter is told from one first person perspective - starting with Reza, then Art, then Judy in that order, and repeated. Each perspective is uniquely shaped by their various intersecting privileges. Reza is a recent immigrant with brown skin and an accent; his Mom has just married into new wealth; and he is gay but not out. Art is white, male, born in the United States, and from an incredibly wealthy and famously prestigious background. Art is gay and has two homophobic parents that do not support his identity. Judy is white, female, straight, born in the United States, but does not come from as wealthy a background as Reza and Art.
