Summary

In Chapter 42, Jorge is worried about what will happen to him once Glengarrow is sold. Carla is considering moving to California where they have relatives. Nick arrives, and Jorge says he is often on the estate now. Cork suggests Nick and Carla will marry, meaning Jorge does not have to move and will be rich. That afternoon, some older boys confront Cork. They make rude remarks about Louise, including that “the only good Indian is a dead Indian” (268). Cork finally becomes angry enough to fight one of the boys. Joe breaks it up. At home, Colleen is upset that he got in a fight but is glad he stood up for Louise's memory.
