Summary

In Chapter 1, it is December 17, 2013. Georgie is coming home after a long day as a television writer for the show Jeff’d Up. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband Neal and her two daughters, Noomi and Alice. Georgie tells her husband that she and her writing partner, Seth, have some interest in the show they have been working on for years.

But then the reason that Georgie is afraid to tell her husband about her success arises – she will have to miss their scheduled Christmas visit with Neal’s family in Nebraska. At first, Neal does not understand; he asks, “Are you planning to fly back to L.A. early?” (5). Georgie tells him no, that she will need to work on the scripts in the days before Christmas.
