Chapter 9-10 Summary

Cole persists in remaining involved with Krantz's investigation, even though Krantz continues to sabotage Cole's efforts. He tells Cole that Karen's autopsy will take place that afternoon; however, by the time Cole arrives at the morgue with a slightly more cooperative Samantha Dolan, the procedure is over. Cole demands to see copies of the autopsy report and grows more suspicious that the LAPD is hiding something from him. He takes matters into his own hands and interviews Eugene Dersh, one of the men who discovered Karen's body. Cole asks Dersh about Edward Deege and the red truck that the hobo described, but Deege does not recall anything suspicious. As Cole leaves, he spots an undercover police car following him.

He returns home with Lucy, where Pike is waiting for him with a copy of the criminalist's crime scene report. Cole shares...
