Summary

The students prepare for the peace rally. Jake is upset because he does not believe the country is united, but Katie responds by talking about the flags people are displaying and how people are being kind to each other. Jake is not in agreement, and Bobby interjects saying that only Americans are united but some people in the country are not American. Mrs. Cruz explains the saying, “hold hands brave Americans all, by uniting we stand, by diving we fall” (257). Jake overhears Rigo, Bobby, and Matt talking about a plan. Matt does not want to be involved in the plan. Jake knows he must figure out what is going on because he believes Sam’s family will be the target.
