Summary
At the funeral, Jake wears the beanie he is given even though he is Catholic. They go inside the dark chapel and people speak kindly of Mr. Steiner. Kirk speaks about how he became a good runner because he would run with his father during the brief times the man was home. He says that being a dad, not being in the Navy, made his father a hero. He was finally about done with his time in the military and was going to see Kirk race when he died. Even though that did not happen, Kirk understands the sacrifice his father was going to make to be with them more.
