Belly's Hometown

Belly lives in an unnamed town on the East Coast that is five-and-a-half hours away from Boston and three-and-a-half hours from Providence. Belly lives with her mother and brother, Steven, because her parents are divorced. Belly has many friends in her hometown, but she does not feel much emotion for them. Instead, her heart is constantly at the summer house in Cousins.

Conrad attends Brown and lives in the dorms when he is not at home in Boston. When Conrad disappears from campus, his RA calls Jeremiah to let him know that no one has seen Conrad. Jeremiah and Belly drive to Brown together to find Conrad, but his dorm is empty. However, they meet a girl who says Conrad told her he was going surfing. Belly also finds a necklace inside Conrad's desk in his dorm that was meant to be a gift for her...
