Summary

In “The City of Scholars,” Galatia gave Mal and Christopher a ride to the City of Scholars, “the Lithian second capital” (137). Before they parted, Christopher tried asking Galatia why the kraken had spared Mal but Galatia disappeared. In the square, they reconvened with Nighthand, Irian, and Ratwin, who informed them Warren died and the boat was destroyed. On their way to the dock for a new boat, they encountered Nighthand’s friend Anja Trevasse. Shocked to hear about the kraken and Neverfear, she offered to help them.

Anja listened to the friends’ story and offered them food, clothing, and shelter. Afterwards, the group encountered a seer in the street who responded strangely to Mal. Christopher was curious about Mal’s palm reading but Mal dismissed it.
