Summary
In “The Arrival of Unicorns,” Christopher, Mal, and Gelifen ran through the surrounding fields until they encountered “a herd of unicorns” (70). They approached Christopher the way other animals approached him. Christopher gave them his mints as a gift. When the murderer appeared, the unicorns offered the friends a ride and they raced towards the sea. There they jumped onto a boat called Neverfear.
In “The Neverfear,” the boat captain, a large man named Fidens Nighthand, found the friends and insisted they leave because he did not want stowaways. They begged for his help because the murderer was after them. He agreed to let them stay and introduced them to his crew, Warren and Ratwin, before they set sail. That night, Mal and Christopher slept fitfully.
