Summary

In Chapter 27, Rachel wonders if David could tell she was lying about the fertility clinic. She feared the truth would jeopardize their relationship. She receives a call about meeting up with a college friend.

Although wary of meeting the Fishers at Pop’s Garage, David goes anyway. As soon as he meets Skunk, Skunk attacks David. David blacks out.

Rachel has not heard from David, but tries not to worry. She is meeting with Hayden, which she “didn’t tell” David (226).

In Chapter 28, David wakes up handcuffed on a plane. Eventually they arrive in Daytona, where David meets with Nicky Fisher. Fisher explains that he convinced Hilde to lie for him so he could secure David’s incarceration. Convinced David was a killer and Lenny had tried to protect him, he wanted to see justice happen.
