Summary

Chapter 15 is titled “Tree and Zheegwon's Coming-To Story.” Tree and Zheegwon describe living with their Uncle Tim in a small town that did not give way to the madness of the Plague as fast as the big cities. They had a good life with him until the day people came, killing their dog. Uncle Tim disappeared that day. A day later, some people captured Tree and Zheegwon. They kept them in the barn for days, cutting pieces from their bodies. “They didn't know yet what they were looking for – blood or flesh or maybe bone. They hadn't yet heard the marrow theory” (121). They knew their uncle could not rescue them, but Miig arrived, bound their wounds, and led them away.
