Summary

In Chapter 25, “Skull” (219), Lucy and Sam follow Anna and Charles back to Anna's house. While Sam and Anna are talking, Charles asks Lucy questions about Sam. Lucy invites Charles outside for a walk through the garden. She tells him she is Sam's sister. Charles begins flirting and sexually propositioning Lucy and she rebuffs him. He tells her that people are only interested in her because of her association with Anna. Angry, Lucy leaves Charles and returns to the house, where she walks in on Anna and Sam kissing.

In Chapter 26, “Plum” (225), Sam steps outside to talk to Charles and Lucy tells Anna that Charles has propositioned her. Anna tells Lucy that she forgives her for being jealous and asks, “What would Charles want with you?” (227). Lucy storms out and meets Sam in the garden. They leave.
