Summary

In Chapter Eight, Hannah went to Cross and Daughters with Piper. She kept thinking about kissing Fox, but she felt guilty for doing so because they were just supposed to be friends. After she played quarters with Piper, Fox offered to walk her home. He went out first so no one would see them leaving together. A couple of locals laughed at her and told her she had better watch out for Fox because he was a tomcat. Hannah got angry and called the older man a scumbag. Fox was partly flattered that Hannah had defended him, but mostly he felt frightened that he would let her down, so he decided to make her think less of him by seducing her in order to reduce himself to a sexual object.
