Summary

In Chapter 38, set on July 28, 2021, Emily realizes that Holly means trouble for her and Roddy. She doubts it is a coincidence that Holly is looking for Ellen, Cary, and Bonnie. Just in case, Emily retrieves a dusty bottle containing two green pills from the medicine cabinet and puts it under her pillow.

Pete’s daughter calls Holly to tell her that Pete had a relapse of Covid. He is in the hospital, but is not severe enough yet to be put on a ventilator.

Holly drives to Rolling Hills where she visits Victor first. Victor says that Roddy and Cary were good friends. Afterward, Holly wonders why Roddy would have lied to her about his friendship with Cary. While she does not think it is possible that Roddy and Emily are killing people, she believes they may be assisting the killer.
